Twice recently I have passed people stopped at a car-hit deer situation. The Forest Rangers near here say that hit deer rarely survive because of the shock.
Don't quite know where to post this, but I think this is probably a pretty popular page.
The situation is: You hit, or you are at the scene of a badly hit deer that's not going to make it. You can phone the Police and they will phone a vet, but at 3 am that might well take two hours, even if you know where you are.
Question then is: What do you do? Drive away and let it die? Kill it? If so how? (You do not conveniently have your gun with you).
If you want to kill it, how do you explain that the on-lookers? What's the legal situation.
I know what I would do and how I would do it, but I don't want to influence answers.
If you have an audience put it in the boot and say your going to the vet as far as killing it I'm not sure as I have never killed one so I wouldn't know how fragile they are but I'm sure if you used a big rock there would be no more suffering, or something of that nature.
It could be that the only option was to operate on its neck , i've tried to save them using this method a couple of times, --- but -- the poor things have died , i did the decent thing and took it away to dispose of, i did'nt like the thought of it lying around upsetting Joe Public.

yep good one! ive had a audience in the past and ive discreetly ut its carrotid artery ,and exclaimed 'oh my its got a bleed!'
alternatively the scoop and run on the pretexed that your going to the vets/wildlife sanctuary works. _________________
I think the head lock manouver is the best explain to the onlookers itl put it to sleep long enough so that you wil get it in the boot safely and head home to the vet mmmmmmmmmm
I think i can safely tell this wee story now , about 30 years ago i was driving along a road i should have been no where near and a deer ran across in front of me (i never hit it cars cost cash !) it scrambled up the bank and caught it'self on the top wire, i was up the bank behind it ,the two of us rolled down the bank onto the road just as a car was stopping ,it should have been my mate who was supposed to be following, as the car door opened i saw the white dog collar of the new local parish minister , the conversation went like so
him- "you ok?"
me- " aye this deer limped across the road but couldnt jump the fence, I think its legs broken"
him- "Yes well make sure its not the bad one you leave on my back door step! Good night i'm of to visit Mr ----- (the gamekeeper) to play bridge , he has invited me to play with a couple of his friends on a tuesday night "
A couple of days later i dropped of a haunch of venison ,and the minister enjoyed a few wee pressies throughout the winter .
Usually on a wednesday
He was also the first man that ever told me about roasting not that there were many in our neck of the woods in these days.

if you get a bit stuck mate have a look at the gracy brothers on ufc it also works on humans lol

That's pretty comprehensive, Magot/ Do you think I should try it in humans first, to sort of get my eye in?
I'll have a look at Gracy brothers on ufc. I don't know what ufc is, Like, I really don't know.
break its neck then suffocate it if you got on lookers ,then leave well alone ,it will be more damaged than it looks .only prob ,is if its a stag ,you can only suffocate it ,you wont break its neck .
