Well this post is'nt as such a Recipe... yet...

We went to our local "ish" Ethnic shopping area yesterday, We are allways overwhelmed by the produce these shop's stock herbs, spices, dips, breads the list is literally endless!!!

The freezer in one of the shop's stocks allot of fish and at seriously bargain prices. Some of the fish are HUGE I'm normally pretty good when it comes to identifying species but was stumped yesterday on a few they had in stock, all marked up with weird names (I'm guessing hindu or summat   )

I've come across this list of alternative names that we're all used to incase anyone has the same problem (not that you probably will... it's just me I'm not normal!).

Anyway I thought I'd look into it because I don't want to be buying some that tastes crap and that I could'nt identify lol! (the people in the shop sorta don't speak English so when I ask "wotz that" they say "Fish"   )

Types of Indian and English names of fish:

Rawas: Indian Salmon Fish

Rane: Red Snapper Fish

Gobro: Rock Cod

Rohu: Greas carp Fish

Murdoshi: Lady Fish

Pomfret: Butter Fish; can be substituted with cat fish

Surmai: King Fish

Sangtam: Cat Fish (A fresh water fish)

Shevto: Muliet Fish

Bangda: Mackerel

Sardines: Are small fish (No shit pmsl!   )

Hilsa Fish: a fresh water fish; can be substituted with cod fish

Teesrya:  Clams

Kekda, Kurlya: Crab

Jhinga, Chingri, Chemen, Sungat: Prawn

I've got my beady eyes on some Catfish they have in stock at the moment £5 each or 3 for £12!!! but their huge!

I've eaten Catfish before but anyone got any good recipe ideas or suggestions?

I'm making at the moment a Sea Salt mix up of fresh Lemon Juice, Lemon Zest with homegrown Lemon Verbina added so going to wak some of that in/over it   will let you know how it turns out Our Offcial Director of Marketing and Taste Testing has yet to confirm the new salts effects...  (Mary our next door neighbour  , havent poisoned her or mates & family to date   ) I'm intrested in the King Fish though... never tried it before but to be honist it's really HUGE and again only a fiver! whats the best way does anyone know of carving up a (shark sized   ) frozen fish into portions?

LOL! whent to the shop today... dodgie looks BIG time with the camera lol!
(will try and phone the owners for permission's on photo's of their feezer, think they thought we was H&S or Enviromental lot snooping   )

Anyway ended up buying a Rohu apparently know as a Greas carp?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rohu

Was priced up for £5 each or again 3 for £12... living in a small shack we didn't have the freezer space for a real monster's but at a guess I'd say this one we got is about 4kg LOL! Got to the Till and the guy as we had just baught 3kg of Goat gave us a discount! so the fish worked out at about £4 squids

Soon as this shite weather breaks it's getting the treatment on our Barbie
