Looks ok mate but files are ussually very brittle,if you do get a grinder on them make sure you have a full face visor on.
Very true but that is why the forge is on as unless you re temper the steel you would be on a hiding to nothing, it is not just a case of sticking a file on a grinder but you are right to point it out.
Once the knife is made it needs tempering again to give a nice edge that does not chip or dent when in use, when I do the next one I will explain more and post pics of the whole process.
Being a builder ive had lots of experiance with grinders and plenty of bad experiances, ive still got shards of metal/brick in me.
A lot of people take cutting/grinding to lightly, obviously you know what youre doing mate but someone else could be tempted to have a bash better safe than sorry.
Interesting idea didnt realise you could re temper a file, looking forward to the next part.
tyke.

i did once, ended up with bits of hot metal in my eye!
Sorry punch dont want to hog your thread mate but i think this is worth a mention.
I bought a full face visor a few months ago cost £8 or £9 from screwfix,
last saturday it saved my eyesight, melting lead pipe to make small ingots it exploded in my face,i think there was a bit of moisture trapped in the pipe? best £9 ive ever spent imo.
My mate got blinded by molten aluminium before that we all took chances,
we dont now not ever.
Wow!! my full face cost £30 but it is joined to a hard hat too I use it for everything exept welding of course.
I know a bloke that lost sight in one eye from rust whilst working under a car, you just never know.
You can advise people but at the end of the day everybody is responsible for their own safety, the silliest and very painful mistake I made was to hold a lump of 4x4 that was just too big for my chopsaw, I was going to feed it in gradually but the saw grabbed the wood and crushed the end of my finger between the wood and the backplate, it has never really healed properly. I am mister over careful now as I don't want that sort of pain again.
