Took my kids to the park on Weds just up the road from us to play on the swings, well I saw this couple hand feeding squirrels so asked them if they knew what damage they did and their effect on the bird population.

They said what are you on about they are lovely little things, I was hoping one would jump up and tear the blokes face off as they are known to do, no such luck though.

So yesterday morning at 6 I borrowed my sons rain coat (mine are all cammo) filled my pocket with hazel nuts from last christmas, (stealth ammo) I knew they would come in handy and a packet of KP mixed fruit and nuts bought specially for my treat.

When I got to the park there were a few dog walkers about but other than that it was pretty quiet. I sat on the bench where the couple were and within 5 minutes I had my first visit so threw a few mixed nuts around.

Now there were 2 squirrels so I gave one of them a hazel nut fired from my catty into the side of his head there was a satisfying cracking sound from both squirrel and nut. I calmly got up tugged the little buggers neck to make sure it was indeed dead and not merely stunned and waited for the next.

Well they came as well as a couple of nice fat woodies which also went the same way.

I think I had more fun in those couple of hours in that small park than I have had in ages over 100's of acres of land.

So don't let anyone tell you you can't kill a squirrel with a nut, Cos you can but it has to be within 8 feet.

Obviously no photo's as I didn't want to attract attention This time but it was so quiet that I will take it next time.

Morlan

With your £1 shop cattys you will have to use lead or metal ammo and in a park what you don't find to pick up will give the game away a bit, those cattys are good for the money just a little under powered.

I used the hazel nuts as ammo as it won't be looked on as sus and probably cleaned up by the wildlife.

You do have to hit the buggers hard with this ammo though when it hits them it really shatters into tiny pieces and sounds awesome and its cheap.

Squirell is OK to eat but a little tough and a bugger to skin but it doesn't have that smell that rabbit can have.

I give any I get to the ferts they love em but I keep the tails..

Thanks for that Info

My OH normally shoots them but not often, he keeps the skins and tails for me (I'm trying to make a bedspread type rug) been looking allday for a Catty (cheap one) for myself to have a bash at Squizzie Bashing in the future only I'll be cooking the meat as well thats if I ever manage to hit one lol!

The £1 shop ones ok but tbh not ideal I guess I better stick to peas before attempting anything else lol!
