reported in this weeks 'Horningsham times' :

".... sutch is the problem lately that the parish is considering asking for help from the county constabulary, and on occasion some disreputable types or poachers have been seen to 'seed' the roads of the parish with corn from the opened window of an automobile, and then seen to return after some minutes and deliberately run down the Game birds that  feed upon the cast-said corn which belong to the Estate of his Grace the 17th Earl of Somerset.
The Horningsham times can report that the local police  community support officer ,Martin Dames actually witnessed one occasion,he stated
"i was going about my routine patrol duties when i came accross what i believed was an RTA (road traffic accident),as it was on a nasty bend just up past Harries oak,i turned on my blue lights, when i got out my vehicle it became apparent that one gentle man had come around the corner and hit about 7 pheasants, and another gent was helping gather the badly injured and dying birds,he told me he was a local locum veterany surgeon and would take them streight to his  surgery for emergency treatment.
I helped load the said birds into the boot of his car mwhene he assured me they would be fine. The vet left at some speed,it was then that i noticed the corn all over the road, and it dawned on me that this clearly was a case of 'road seeding'."
Clearly this band of poachers are ruthless and will stop at nothing to satisfy their appetite for public disobeidience.
Frank Winters head game keeper on the Estate urges the readers to phone him or crime stoppers should they see any suspicious behaviour in or around the estate."

whoed ever live in sutch a crime ridden area eh!

PMSL

they have to seed the roads around there? down in Dulverton a lot of birds are killed when the steering and brakes suddenly play up.

The road even has signs with pictures of ducks on them but try as I might I have never seen a duck so don't try to avoid them.

Tis a F'kn liberty how they try to blame poor stock management and cerial spillages on the innocent motorists wearing green jerkins and flat caps clearing up the mess and maybe getting a free dinner in the process.

PCSO Martin Dames should spend the week up here with the pitbulls, smackheads and Al Qaeda supporters!

Mr Punch is right.

It is the responsibility of the keeper to put the Hi-Vis jackets on the birds... and not blame innocent british motorists.

In fact, if I were the driver I would sue "His Grace" for Post traumatic stress disorder

Public highway?  Public property! :D

Boy, those police community support Orwellian 1984 boys are real inteligent!

I've seen that done dozens of times over the years on remote roads close to shoots, but there are better ways.

Unfortunatly Adam that loophole is covered by the law.

If as  a motorist you "accidentally" run over some game/rabbits you arent allowed to pick it up,anyone following you in another veichle can though.

The barstewards would bottle fresh air if they could.
