hi all iv just read something on here about shooting with your dominant eye,now i am left handed and shoot left handed, and i have recently started using a cattie again for hunting so have been doing alot of target shooting in the back garden, the thing is i have always shot a cattie right handed as it feels more natural, but when i read the post i thought il have a go left handed and i have found myself more accurate but i dont feel like i have the same strength left handed with a cattie and it doesnt feel as natural to shoot left handed even though i am,now the question is would you continue to shoot right handed because it feels more natural or keep practising left handed and i will get used to it because i do seem to be more accurate left handed but its abit more awkward any advice welcome cheers danny.
right handed means you hold your catty in your left hand and ammo pouch in your right. left handed is the other way round... .but you should shoot the way you are most comfortable with.....mack _________________
for years i shot a cattie with it in my left hand and pouch in my right i have had abit of game with them but im not really as i accurate as i should be,but ive been practising alot recently.and today i tried shooting with the cattie in my right hand and even though it wasnt as comfy i was more accurate on the targets so i was thinking of just practising left handed and seeing if it starts to feel more comfortable,i could put up with it if it means hitting the target more consistently,i would shoot a gun left handed so that might be why i am more accurate left handed.
Hi Danny, I had the same dilema as you - I'd shot for years with my right hand, I'm right handed and right eye dominant, I was never very consistantly accurate. I then was advised to hold the catty in my left hand as you can draw back to an "anchor point" on your face in line with your dominant eye which improves sight aiming. It was hard at first using the slightly weaker arm, and felt unnatural, but I stuck with it and after practising most days for about 7 or 8 days my accuracy was transformed. I'm now consistantly shooting bottle lids at 10 metres ( 7 out of 10 ). Not everyone shoots like this. some shoot purely instinctively - I just know what worked for me. The target practice helps but I was out earlier and a bdooly great cock pheasant walked out from behing a tree on the other side of the hedge, about 7 or 8 metres away I went for a head shot and missed ! Then the f'er flew up out of sight in a conifer , hey ho.
Cheers Strider
you should put the slingshot in the hand oposite of your dominant eye ...no matter wether you shoot instinctive or sighting. i am right handed and left eye dominant so i taught myself to shoot with the catty in my right hand instead of my left...it feels weird at first but you get used to it now i feel a little weird wen i switch back. but more importantly my accuracy improved greatly..see its easier for your brain to make the calculations necesary for instinctive shooting when your ammo start consistantly somewhere bellow your dominant eye. _________________ "Speak softly and carry a big stick, you will go far" Theodore Roosevelt,
look at it this way ...if it absolutely doesnt work for you, you can always change back with no harm done. but I could almost guarantee a noticeable improvement . so i take it your left eyed then ?? and right handed ?? Im the same way, _________________ "Speak softly and carry a big stick, you will go far" Theodore Roosevelt,
