yes i'm afraid computers are way over the top for me , give me a bit wire, or trout's belly to tickle, a stick, or a pop gun, but computers ??? no can do, mind it took me a lifetime to master the catty (i use the term master loosely!!!!) so i might get the better of this machine one day.

I think we're in the same boat when it comes to computers Confused, however with a lot of perseverance(I am after all just a thick scouser)a bit of help from friends, and an account(free)with photobucket,I occasionally manage to get one up.Normally there should be a photo of my dog ROCKY AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE(scuse the capitals, told you I was crap)

I also had an excellent days fishing on saturday, fished a couple of hill lochs, midges were bad when the wind got down, but I caught 7 wild brown trout all over a pound in 3 hours which was pretty decent. With the fly I might add, not the gill net.

Well i was away for the weekend and a wee bit fishing, spent the morning wondering what i was doing wrong (possibly everything!) could'nt get a bite , then the RAIN!!! came, absolutely torrents of the stuff,so i gave up and headed for the caravan, by the time i was halfway home the sun was cracking the trees, so i thought ,i might as well take the old dog a wee ramble along this old track and see if there are any nice hazel shanks, found 5, so being the the kind of guy who believes that a bird in the hand is worth 2 in anyone elses ! i cut them and headed of for home and a shower (warm) along the side of at a wee hill burn ,i thought back to the simple days before i thought of fly fishing, so i had a wee shot along the side armed with about 8/10 feet of line tied on my new cut shank and a couple of worms , and ended up with 3 fish about 8/9 inches long, big enough to have with a bit of toast and a "wee " dram for supper, a fantastic day 5.30a.m. untill 7.pm superb just me and the dog, no hassle ,no phones, no idiotic questions ! thats what life is about !!! simplicity.
P.S. when i got back to caravan my wife said "Oh your dry it was raining here this morning" and i thought i'd missed these idiotic statements !!

OK I'll try and explain,I'm in France, where rainbow trout are raised for the table, they're also released in rivers and lakes, uniquely for the local anglers to catch,as they'll take almost anything(I've seen them caught on plastic worms)When the trout are"too old"to be viable for reproduction, they too are released,so you get fishermen posing with 20lb specimens that were released the day before, what I'm saying is that they have little value here, brown trout in their wild form are another matter(they are also raised for the table)So a wild brown trout of say 1kg would be a really good fish. Now as rainbow trout do not reproduce naturally in France or in Scotland,I,in my innocence, presumed that you'd caught a 3 1/2lb brown trout.Must add that I once caught a 3lb rainbow which had escaped from a trout farm in the lake district,I was really pleased,so don't take my words as any sort of rebuke,I was just surprised,I suppose my values have changed somewhat in the 20 odd years that I've lived here

My apologies,I've only just noticed the title of the thread"3 1/2lb rainbow"

Thanks for the explanation, where i live there is a trout farm about 10/15 mile away,so i suppose friday nights one, it must have come from there originally, the 3 1/2 lb one ? i caught that while i was at my caravan, so where that came from ??? god knows?
but thanks for the info, i never even considered your comments as a rebuke, i was just delighted to catch them, (and to eat them), I have never fished at a fishery, being to tight (scotsman ) to want to pay , especially to put them back i prefer eating my "graft" as you can see from the pics of my waist line
I have only recently returned to fishing , and enjoying living my youth again.

I thought some on here may appreciate this photo, it was an extremely cold day up at LlynGwyn here in mid wales. I'd promised to take young Mark(my youngest) for his first fly fishing trip. The irony is that this is the same day that the Trout masters fish off was taking place(bank only). We'd opted to cover a bit more water so Mark persuaded me to pay the £6 and hire a boat. The outcome of the day was Mark 1 fish Dad 2 fish but as you can see from the photos Mark still wins!
My two
As you can see Mark's fish was worth more than my two.
This was back in the winter but nevertheless I thought with the lovely grin on his face others might find it amusing.
I nearly forgot the end of this story, as I said it was the Troutmasters fish off. There are some really good anglers in that competition and I'm in no way trying to say that I'm a goof fisherman here but, that day the big guns were struggling to catch. Myself and Mark would have won it if we were entered. We definately had top weight on the day between us.
