Where i work everyone else is on holls this week, so i'm catching up on a few bits of maintenance, etc, well on saturday night i met one of the young kids who used to come to my club (for waifs + strays) he is now working for a pest controller ,so i asked him to come round and show me what he has learned so far, on sunday morning about 7.30 am, and -9 degrees he appeared with his ferrets ,eager to show of his skills , (we have a few bunnys in the school grounds ,which Confused is only to happy to let breed!) after about his third hole he had one in the net, another 1hr passed and he still had just the one, then he asked ,how would you do this one (a portacabin that was being well used underneath as a home for some bunnys) i suggested that he was on his own and i was only watching so to be fair he to him he hung a couple of 20yd long nets round the nursery fence and let his ferrets have a look in the holes that go under the cabin, i dont know who was more pleased when he took 5 bunnys from there !!
Maybe not the biggest haul for a couple of hours , but i was bursting with pride to see how pleased this laddie was at showing me what he can do , and even prouder when he said "aye big yin i'll no see ye starve when yer old, ye were gid tae me when i was here"" i know that self praise is no praise but i honestly was chuffed to the guttys, with this kid, 6 years ago you would have kicked his a--e and said waster!
I just love it when it all comes together for some of these kids, if only a few more could get the chance.
P.S. My day was even better when he gave me couple for the pot !! and said he would come back and show of his ferrets to the kids at the school.

I've had a few apprentices like that, careful handling and a bit of praise in the right place work wonders, and when they go on to do great things, you're as proud of them as if it were your own children,so you're right to give yourself a pat on the back Confused, you probably changed that lads life

Good on ya Big Man, my missus works in community development and I hear this type of thing often, some kids just need a bit of attention and kindness, and they are completly differant people.
