A small seine net?

When on the move, could a small seine net be used on small lochs where you don't have the time to set a gill net?  I ask as you just drag the seine net through, then pull out the fish in the bag.  I have a good source of 15mm netting now, and was thinking of making something 6m long and 1.5m deep.  Would this be too small (would fish swim around it?)  Is a bag neccessary or can I just use the net as a bag?  I'm going after trout primarily.

i think ur biggest problem would be the amount of people you need to use a seine net

2 on the float line (ethier end) and to on the lead line (lead line work is kinda tricky as youv gott put your knee on the bottom as you pull the net in so that the net is pinned down all the way to the shore. i would say that the net would be too small for the jobs we did as part of my course we were usin a 100m seine (which weighs a tonne when its wet and youv gotta drag it into the landy

im not sure what u  mean by bag if your talkin about the seine net you
should pull the float line and lead line in a matter to make the net bag out
if your talkin about carryin it then what we used was a wheelie dustbin and you put the net in that then put  it on a trailer connected to a landy

remember that no seine netting is never more then 70% effective

and of course you need to have the correct documentation from the ea

now if you wanted to be quick in shallow water i would suggest electrofishing gear, mind its expensive but quick and effective forr shallow water

but to be honest a gill net shouldnt take that long to set out,

unless your stayin with it but best bet is to leave a gill net out for 12 hours or so or set it before dawn and colleect it after dusk if u need the cover of darkness
fish

BEST BET WOULD BE THE CAST NETS.

The reason I can't use a gill net is I'm walking constantly, thorugh the hills and not going back in a loop.  So a siene net would catch the fish without a need to wait.  Would 6m long just let the fish swim round it?  I'm not after huge yeilds, just enough for dinner.

How Do All

Why not use a gill net in the same way as a siene net?
There is nothing stopping you attaching lines to it and draging it like a siene net,  it will be less weight to carry as the mesh is larger, a bonus being able to carry a larger net for the same pack space and weight, it will be easier to work as there will be less resistance on the net meaning you can drag it faster with a better chance of catching the fish before they swim around it, also being a gill net you have a better chance of keeping the catch which may become gilled.

if you want to add bag to the net you can tie the net down, meaning at regular intervals you attch a cord to the float line and run it down to the lead line making this cord much shorter than the fishing depth of the net, this will create a bag in the net and also increase you chance of a catch.

I hope these ideas help?

Take care,

I can never seem to find gill nets in small sizes, e.g 25mm or so, if I could, that's what I'd use.

Look for chinese suppliers Fishy, plenty of them about,I just found a net set in a Tilapia pond this afternoon,I pulled it in as it was filled with frogs, left it on the bank as the pond is a friends and no-one has permission to fish it.
