An ammo question??

Hi all - I've just become the vey proud owner of one of Fish's Hunters  but i have a question about ammo. I was using 8mm SS balls before with my black widow but these don't seem to work so well with the Hunter. I think they may be too light for all that power. If i stick with SS balls, what size should i use?
JoergS

Be careful with your words, us German members may misunderstand "SS balls"!

Seriously, 8mm balls are way too light for the Fish Hunter. I had very good results with 14 mm and 15 mm steel balls and can recommend them.

Greetings, Jörg

No offence intended Jorg. But are you saying my balls are to small
JoergS

Well if they are 8mm in diameter, then yes, I dare say they are too small. Unless you are a pre-school kid.
BigCharl

The ones that my 3 year old uses are bigger than that lol
JoergS

Well, I do not have any kids so I can't check, and I forgot how big mine were when I was three. But way bigger than anyone else's, I am sure about this.
fish

jorgs cat has big balls!

Well i'm off to get some bigger balls then

Can any one tell me how hard it is to make your own lead ammo? What tools do you need other than a mould? Does it work out a lot cheaper than buying LARGE ball bearings?

Its reasonably easy and the ammo is much better, you need a mould of course[i use a lee .457] a bullet ladle [about £3] and a melting pot [i use a large Tuna tin and just change it when neseseary.

I use a camping stove,i rekon i get about 300 balls to a can of gas[about £1,20] i get the lead for free [builder]

Just be careful and wear proper gloves and a face visor and keep any moisture away from the molten lead.

I got my mould/ladle from here

hope that helps.

Forgot to mention, they sell ready made lead balls, you could try a few different sizes before deciding what calibre mould you want, they are a bit pricey though about 9p each.

Cheers for the info Tyke. I think i might give it a go.

Now to find a ready source of lead???
