Anything still happening on the South coastIs anyone able to give a report on what is still being caught? I'm in Gloucestershire, so anywhere within 100 miles, I guess - Dorset/southeast Devon or even the Severn Estuary. Anything edible, from sea or shore!
Thanks,
The Twig

i wouldnt bother with the south coast at all,its been fished out over the last 20 years, even the mackerel were few in number this year.i recon bristol hannel from Blue Anchor through to minehead will produce some early codling and some nice wrasse on the right spot, might even be worth an estuary for some flounder bashing.
remember to take yer camera though!

Moocher - have you got any contacts who fish down that way? What do they catch there? I've often wondered about that stretch of the river. My ex-father-in-law was part of a salmon team who had a draught at Minsterworth. I used to go with him quite a lot, fishing big nets and also with lathe nets in the shallows. Did go somewhere down Newnham/Blakeney way a few time with the lathes.
He also used to net silver eels in the Leadon where it joins the Severn behind the old Over hospital. Not to mention the elvers, I went here there and everywhere chasing those buggers - especially when we were getting nearly 300 quid a kilo for them!!

There are still good fish being caught on the south coast, but most I know of are being caught from yaks.
