On a sensible note - realised last night that yep the time is now fast approaching to get those broad beans in! Dont tend to plant them and over winter as the mice tend to love them too much so I start them off indoors in toilet rolls then plant out when they are less appealing to mice seem to do fine that way.
My veggie plot is nothing to boast about unfortunately, We had to move house again last year and as of yet havent managed to sort out place to put plot - have loads of space but needs to look tidy for landlord plus a lot of the ground is made up on top of a car park.
Managed to grow some great carrots last year though and beatroot. had a wonderful line of runner beans in flower and just starting to pick beans - went away for 2 days and when I came back they were starting to wilt? :smt007 soaked and re soaked in water but still didnt pick up - only then realised that at the bottom of the plants they had all been snipped off ? B***** mice! didnt think they would do that, but that is the only thing I can think of! they wont do it again this year! traps and more traps will be down!

Too late for sowing to over winter and about 6 weeks early too! soak the seed in some parafin, this wont affect the seed but mice bdooly hate it! it works on pea seed too!! another tip on planting the bean seed, put 4 seeds in each hole, theres a saying that goes "one for the rook, one for the crow one to rot and one to grow!".
cheapest and best place for bulk seed is scats or molevalley, they sell 1 pound for £1.99. good luck.wouldnt hurt to get the garlic in now.

can usually get away with sowing stuff a bit earlier down here, we dont tend to get the heavy frosts - only get a decent snow every 10 -15 years, we had the last lot 2 years ago so that should be fine. Heard about soaking the seeds, how long do you leave it to soak, might try it this year.
As for the garlic, must get some, bad year last year for me, they really didnt come to have as good as usual. try again to get it right! Cant live without my garlic!
fish
just soak over night.as for the garlic we did ok but the bulbs werent very big.
fpo
Yeh that was my problem too, used to getting good sized results with great flavour, flavour there but some of the bulbs didnt split before they died back!? used them any way and tasted fine - do you use any perticular garlic or just whatever is around? used Cristo in the past with good results.

the weather was to blame last year, too wet. i generally use whatevers cheap at scats! i tried the elephant garlic but i wasnt overly impressed.
this year ime gonna reduce the varietys of veg i grow,i doubt ille grow to show this year,i retired at the top of the leage here! cabbaged to 22lb each, pair of marrows to 87lb,runner bean at 33inches....... :smt001
