Why not just buy a decent catapult of fish.

I have one of fish's cattys and they're brilliant. I was wandering if they would be any good though. Or are they a waste of time for hunting?

thats down to the design, the 'pretzel' anchor would take hunterbands and so yes could be used for hunting.

aye they might be o.k. but why drive a Lada when you own a Rolls Royce?

The big advantage of the Chinese method is the quick band exchange.
However, the disadvantage is that they are made for tubes, not flat bands. The performance is simply not as good. Flat rubber like Fish uses them for his catties is more powerful with less draw force.
The Chinese love target shooting, and their slingshots are made for just that purpose. For hunting, I would rather prefer flat bands.

Can anybody tell me what size ammo these dankun catties use?
I've tried 7.65 mm rond ball in a flat-band homemade cattie, but the shots are coming quite low. I have given .44 a try but with the same results, should I use even bigger ammo? or am I doing something else wrong.....
Last question: what kind of thread do you guys use, to make the constrictor knot. I've tried hemp thread, but this doesn't hold well and the most important question: Where can I get it!
Cheers,
RB

I can tell you one thing RB bigger ammo isnt gonna shoot higher or faster but maybe i dont understand your question
also cotton string is what you want for your knots it holds very well, and is very cheap... i have also used artificial sinew if you get it wet then tie it, it shrinks when it dries and is very tight.

i use thin strips of inner tube from bicycles, they stretch and are really tight and they usually don't cost anything...mack

Hello Statikpunk & Wabbiter,
What I mend was that I'm not sure if I'm using the right size of ammo for this type of bands. When the ammo is too light it would go higher in my opinion, because of the increase in velocity, but it comes much lower on the point of impact I'm aiming at. So I tried bigger balls, but with the same effect. What am I doing wrong, when it hasn't to do anything with the size of the ammo? It's my fisrt set of flatband rubber, before I always used tubular.
Wabbiter thanks for the tip: living in a country where everybody has a bike it won't be a problem to get some innertube and use that instead of thread.
Cheers,
RB

ah i got you ! sounds to me like you just need to get used to it..every catty i have shoots a little different...try checking your pouch for any roughness that may be affecting spin and trajectory..then double check your shooting position and follow through...new bands, or catty, that your not used to may be "unknowingly" making you change your shooting style. I often shoot low when i am shooting bands that are too strong of pull for me, not sure why, shaky release or too much snap at release, something....just remember in all shooting sports, consistency leads to accuracy

Thanks Statik,
I will look at the the way I'm shooting the cattie with the flatbands more closely. These bands are quite powerful and I shake a lot more with this one, then when I'm shooting my regular catties. Practice makes perfect ..... I'm not only getting older, I'm getting weaker as well, or those bands are getting stronger & stronger all the time! Only when you're as strong as Joerg you can handle these bands without a problem!
Thanks once more for your advice,
Cheers,

i think we could all probably improve our shooting if we had a slow motion camera like jeorgs ..it would help to scrutinize ones form when shooting. i know they use them for golfers anyway

Cheers folks I dont think I'll bother im getting enough with the fish hunter catapult. I compared it to my old barnett the other day....lol no comparison what so ever, was shooting at snipe from at least 50 yards away (wasnt shooting to kill they were just there and it seemed a good idea at the time.) would easily hit within a couple of foot radius with the fish hunter, i can get crows and maggies out of trees from 20 -30 but really need to work on my close range aim with ground game its embarisingly bad compared to shooting up, somehow.

i made a dankun copy, they are suprsingly good. im not sure why but they seem to give more power when compared to the same bands attached conventionally. it may be because the bands are loose and so nothing stops their momentum?
