DIY priest kosh pic heavy

Bore out good piece of timber I used Hazel

Fill with molten lead be careful it does spit as it burns into the wood.

Cut off excess lead flush and drill 3 holes for a dowel joint glue in place.

To get the holes right in the cap end dab a bit of glue on the dowel ends then place cap where it is going to fit this will leave little drops of glue as a drill guide, place on cap and clamp up until dry.

Shape end cap if you like or leave it naturel I shaped mine to smooth it out a bit.

Finish it off as you wish I used silver to show that it contains lead to you all then laquered it all over I also added a braided lace hand loop.

This weighs just over 1/2lb 271grams and of course is front heavy I think it will be a useful cheap tool.

Go on you know you want to make one.

Was thinking about making one of these for a mate,
Q:do you drill all the way through ?
Q:is fresh cut wood the best to use?

Cheers
Don't know if i don't ask

Hi badoosh

No you don't drill all the way through just over 1/2 way to keep it front heavy.

seasoned wood is what you want and even that spits a bit. using wood still in the green would produse a volcano of spitting moulten lead as the water in the wood reacts with the hot lead, Not reccomended.

As a little note wear gloves and safety glasses just in case. and make it outside.

Cheers for reply  punch, can you use any wood?
sorry for dim questions

Not dim questions at all badoosh yep you can even use an old broom handle, obviously hardwoods are best.

So really any nut tree sycamore any fruit tree some are more durable than others pine and softwoods are not of much use as they will break or dent very easily.

Priests

I've started making priests recently out of rolls of stag horn. I'd post a picture if I could work out how to? How do you do it here? Is it just me[/img]
