Floats?

I want to take my lad float fishing this year, but I haven't got any floats!  Most of my tackle is for sea fishing, but I have still got my 12' float rod and an OK reel.  I'm going to get a few floats, but am a bit bewildered by the range of sizes and shapes on offer!  What would you guys recommend as a reasonable small selection for canal/lake/river fishing?
fish

cant go far wrong with a waggler   !
countryboy

I popped in to my local farmer's stores today and they've started doing fishin gear.  I bought a big selection of floats in a tube thing and some shot as well.

Just need to get some coarse hooks and fairly light line now...

...oh, and a rod license of course.
Tidal_wear

Never forget your rod-licence,most important

I have used sticks before, very effective and you can adjust the weight by cutting off some of it.  Plus, it is very discreet should you forget your permit.
Tidal_wear

I normally use floats when fishing
countryboy

Nice idea that fishy.

TW that is some heavy duty fishing tackle!!!

I haven't coarse fished seriously for yearsso I'm looking forward to getting out there again.

Your rod arrived today   Bring the blank over,I will whipon the rings and reel-seat k?We will go fishing somethime this week, drop the stuff off then and I will build the rod k mate?
Tidal_wear

I even found my knife at the bottom of the washing basket,so I can help you clean the catch this time   I just hope I am able to with the arthritis in my old hands   But I KNOW you wouldnt take advantage of an old guy and make me do any, would you joe?
JOE_H

it's no bother if you dont gut the fish mate, you can just carry them. If that hurts your hands ill bring a back pack    . Everytime we go fishing, i have to get a shower when i get in then again in the morning. I go to work and my hands still stink of fish   . I must start using soap. Joe

Same time,same place,you know when,you know where

Do tell us all.
Tidal_wear

Well, some nights are strange, and some nights are not so strange Fishy, that was one of the stranger ones   We did however get quite a good number of fish in exactly twenty minutes on a rather unusual bait

JOE_H

I thought it was well funny, especially when you was trying to call in that weird bird that looked like a cross between a duck and a feral pigeon    .
Tidal_wear

The strange thing was it actually came over
JOE_H

It came over to eat the imaginary bread you were throwing to it
Tidal_wear

Next time,if the tides the same state they will be there,we can get a few   Make a change from fish
JOE_H

Good plan    Ill bring a landing net
Tidal_wear

Dont need a landing net mate,I am sure we can come up with a more ingenious plan for getting a few ducks
Tidal_wear

Joe,I aint got a clue how to glue this,I tried stapling it and just ran out of Evo-stik   I am going to register on that bushcraft site, maybe someone on there can help? They have loads of resident experts

JOE_H

Ran out of glue    I've got an old pot of honey here that my nan left me in her will. I spilt some the other day and it dried rock hard. Will that be any good for you TW. Failing that i could steal some fencing nails from work.
I was chatting to a resident expert on BUSHCRAFT UK last night, apparently this lad knows his stuff about netting and recommended you use a simple nut and bolt combination.

I was thinking yesterday while at work that we would catch more fish if we halved the depth of the net and made 2 100yarders that fished 6ft deep    . I know it will take you an age to cut 2000 meshes so if you want ill bring my chainsaw around later and we'll bash it out in a matter of minutes
Tidal_wear

Couldnt we make 8 that fish a foot and a half deep? For when the fish are sunbathing on the surface? It might just work
As for your nans honey, forget it,it attracts water-wasps,I will pop over to Tescos in a minute,I will buy some maple syrup or "No more nails"   And I will pick up some duck-tape and a box of tacks   SORTED!!!
JOE_H

Good man    The tacks should do the trick nicely.
Tidal_wear

Dont forget,we need to re-locate some fish one night this week
