wildman how do you go about shooting your geese do you decoy them in or wait under the flight lines, also what breed of geese do you have over there to shoot, cheers steve.

Steve, Most are taken by jump shooting and float hunting, some by spotting and stalking. I don’t use decoys, too much hassle and one must travel light. Mostly Canada’s here in my area, but several species of ducks! Mallards, teal, wood duck, black duck, merganser ECT.  You’ll see the odd snow goose once in a while. Jump shooting fowl is fast and fun and float hunting is excellent too. Spot and stalk is a good game if one knows how to use cover and move silently. Pass shooting is o.k. but requires one to remain stationary which in turn puts you at risk. Working fowl at night from a canoe can be done with a catapult, bow or gun according to the water you’re working. Tritium front sight is excellent and only requires one man. Catty and bow work is best done in pairs, one shooter, one navigator. Moonlight requires no lamp, dark nights red filter. Small lamp can be attached to bow riser or fishing insert if working alone. Pre-Set angle of lamp head before heading out by aiming at a small target in the dark. Bow fishing reels can be used if the range will be short. Place arrow in center of back. If using scattergun use fine shot, #7 ˝ and go for head and neck. If using catty 44 lead ball in neck ins best, be sure to use heavy bands. Oh yes, I would never use any of the above techniques as most are illegal so this is for entertainment purposes only!
