Hello All

Greetings to all....I have been lurking for a while and loved this forum so much I decided to join.  My principal interests are catapultry (wrote a magazine article  and had it published a while back), fishing, fly-tying, knapping arrow points from beer bottle bottoms, good old sporting books, hunting relics, being afield in general, and knocking down the odd rabbit or two when the oppurtunity presents itself (and no one is looking).  I'm an American of Southern heritage, though I confess I really do like the way you people follow the sporting endeavors.

Knapping

No, I'm sorry to report, I don't currently have any pictures on my computer.  I work as a Mate on a DP Sat Diving Boat (formerly of your lovely North Sea) in the Gulf of Mexico and won't be home for another week.  What I do have (at home) is a lengthy magazine article I wrote and had published in The Backwoodsman over here.  It is a complete tutorial that can lead anyone from not even knowing what knapping is to total success in this endeavor in only a short time and for a financial outlay of........zero dollars (or quid, if you prefer).  As soon as I get home I'll scan this, my slingshot/catapult article, and one on Coke-Bottle fishing and pm to any forum members who are interested.
No, I don't do any more raccoon hunting, though it is great fun.  I don't have any hounds at the moment.

welcome aboard my confederate compadre

That seems interesting , coke bottle fishing ?  i must find out more about that ,i love to learn anything new . When i die i'm going to be the cleverest guy that ever died !
yoggerman

i think its a handline..... but wound around a can instead of your hand..............

Coke-Bottle fishing

Yes, you are correct.  It is a casting handline that, when used with skill, can do almost anything a rod and reel can for a minute fraction of the cost.  It also allows one, to quote my article, to "fish areas so brushy a billy goat would run away in terror" as you aren't swinging a long rod to cast.  I almost always use four-pound test and have landed some good fish on it.  My largest ever was a 23 -lb blue catfish (heavier line, of course) caught in Louisiana and even landed a few silver/coho salmon on it when I lived up in Alaska.
This rig is a true gamekeeper's nightmare as it allows one to do almost everything a rod can but is only the length of a Coke bottle.  A small hydration pack with a small tackle box and a catapult can form the basis for many a fine day.....I'll scan my article on this when I get home and send it to whoever wants a copy.
wabbiter

to the shed mate, looking forward to your return , i'de love a copy cheers ....mack

i feel bl---y stupid now ! but i'd like to read the article, i've seen guys casting through the ring on the end of a safety pin stuck in a wee bit twig, and i've used a hand line (when i've been out for a walk on the wrong side of the fence ) but this seems a bit more skillfull.

Coke Bottle Fishing

Nothing stupid to feel, my friend.  Also there is no safety pin or for that matter anything other than a coke bottle, monofilament, and your terminal tackle.  I know there is a lot of crap floating around out there trying to pass itself off as the truth......I can back up everything I claim with this rig, and once I can get it scanned and out to everyone you all will come to realise this is the fishing version of the Milbro--not exactly as good as say, a full-sized rod (or rifle, for that matter) but very effective in its own way AND will ride in one's pocket out of sight (and out of mind).  I am due off of here on Wednesday and should be able to get this scanned in the first few days I have at the house.  I will also be doing my catapult and flintknapping articles, and am in the finishing stages of one about braiding the Peruvian Shepherd's Sling with a variety of extremly simple 16-strand braids.  Thanks for the interest and I am extremely excited to be soon unleashing coke-bottle fishing on the gamekeepers over there!

i love anything that is "out of sight out of mind!" one of the few advantages of getting older , is now i'm just an old git walking around lost !

The true beauty of this system is that while it is completely concealable, terrifyingly effective, and 100% real-world capable, it is also absolutely free if you already have the mono and terminal gear lying about as I am certain you all do.  The common thread to all the articles I have had published in The Backwoodsman is they are all interesting, useful skills that make you a more capable person and the end products are something very unique and fine to behold......they are all also either completely without cost or cost so little as to be inconsequential.  In this day and economic time.......well, 'nuff said.
I am still due off here come Wednesday and will make getting these three articles scanned within a day or two of hitting the house.
