made a drawknife

made a carbon steel drawknife today for my on going longbow project.Amazing what you can do with scrap from work!

ash longbow

My son and i felled a 6"diameter ash sapling in the woods on Sunday gone. Split it on site and cut it into 6ft lengths, as this is summer wood i am not sure how in will differ from wood cut later in the year. As a back up i have left a section lodged off the ground  horizontal in the wood for use at a later date when its hade a chance to season a bit.The piece i used although its green springs nicely and is now in the rafters of my garage losing a bit more moisture before i finish it off.
