Maggots on hidesHi
I have a hide off a deer I killed last night, and I've currently got the hide stretched out on a frame, with lots of salt rubbed in. However, it's quite hot weather up here, must be about 15C where I'm storing the hide and I can't get anywhere colder. I'm trying to keep the flies off it, but a few have got on it.
Therefore, I am worried about maggots. Will the salt keep them from growing? I'm trying to get the hide dry, then it will be no problem, but at the moment it is moist, and it normally takes 4 or 5 days to dry up here. Is there going to be maggots on it? From reading on the net, maggots destroy hides. I have done hides before, but normally in the winter when there are no flies.
So, should I be worried, and if so, what should I do?
