, Yip my best ever !! only one problem they were goldfish
I better explain myself before i lose all my street cred ! i work at a school which has a pond, well one of the teachers has a rather posh weddibg coming up and she said to me (half heartedly ) i'm looking for goldfish to put in bowls on the tables for the wedding my brain never misses a trick (miserable scts git!!) "How many ?" "How much ?" was the answer she got , 40 at 50p each and you can have them back after the wedding !! the result was 6 ,2litre plastic bottles made into minnow traps set this morning in the pond returned at 4p.m. and i had 53 goldfish . a wee bit fun and my mates young lad thought it was great fun, now he wants to catch more and sell them to his pals!! the best bit was his dad appeared with a few cans to say thanks for entertaining the wee lad.
P.S. The cans are gone now ,it's been scorching here all day .

I wish ! no teacher me , i'm only the old "janny" mind you i enjoy teaching (showing) some of the kids a few wee things i've picked up over the years, i run a couple of wee after school clubs doing gardening(which my mate fish was brilliant in helping me get seeds and get started) we make bird nest boxs , bird tables , paper logs, anything to try and keep them intrested and out of bother . i love passing on the wee bits i've been shown over the years.

When i was first shown how to make a minnow trap ,(55 year ago!!) we used a glass wine bottle and knocked a hole in the inverted bottom with a nail ,usually with disastorous results!! Much easier now ,just take a 2litre plastic coke bottle cut it off about 4 inches from the top ,push the top inside the bottom part so that the neck is inside the bottle (like a funnel) make a couple of wee holes to fix them together with a wee bit string , put a few wee bits of bread inside for bait (i've used elderberry flowers in the past) silly wee fish pops in and cant work out how to escape , small minnows were my old mans favourite bait when he was going fishing for decent trout.
fish
i used to have a glass vintage Heddon patented minnow trap! thay were the days!
well done on the goldfish mate! i wouldav sat there with a roach wip and a 22 hook with a pinkie!

Confused-your minnow trap also makes an excellent wasp trap, make it exactly the same way,but put a few inches of beer in the bottom and add a bit of sugar, hang it up wherever you're bothered by wasps and watch them come
