New Rod Christened !

Hi All,
OK the last telescopic rod I owned was taken off of me by a gamekeeper carrying a .22 rifle ( but that's another story... ).

I just thought I'd share a picture of my new Maver 7ft telescopic spinning rod I bought yesterday.

It's got a nice thru action, it's reasonably well made with lined rings that are well spaced, at 7ft you can carry it while fighting your way thru undergrowth etc, it's got a "keeper ring" to hook your spinner on and the best thing is it can easily live in the inside pocket of the Barbour jacket ! It cost £20.

The trout were caught ( along with 3 chub ) on a good old upstream revolving Mepps fly, and they are due in the smoker any minute.

Hi Fish - I bought the rod from my local tackle shop in Reading but follow this link to Maver

I used it today out of my Canadian canoe in the Thames ( Goring weirpool, after Perch), it's a handy little rod.

Froggy Fagan - yes the reel is a Mitchell 300, I inherited it along with a load of other stuff about 10 years ago. It's a great reel that's helped me land everything from pike over 20lb to grilse, seatrout, perch, barbel rakes of eels - even bass and mackerel. The secret I found with it is  getting good at backwinding when a fish is taking line. Funnily enough it was made on your side of the channel ( it's got "Made in France"  stamped on the back ! )

Cheers   Strider
