Newbie needs advice...

Hi all - after spending loads of time looking through this forum i decided to have a go at making a catapult myself. So out into the woods i went looking for a decent fork or two only to discover that my local wood is full of hazel.  So i 've got lots of nice forks out there.

But being very new at all this i have no idea how long it takes to dry out? Where should i keep it while its drying out?
Can you make the catty and then dry it out?
Or do you not have to dry it out at all?

Also i found one very nice fork on the floor. It is all ready dry but doesn't feel weak or rotten at all. Would it be safe to use as a catapult?

Lots of questions i know, but any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.

i air dry my natural forks for about 2 weeks indoors, but i have some in the she that have hung for 12months!

as for the fork from the floor ,if it doesnt break when you try with yer hands itll be fine!

good luck.
