He is a hard little fellow, and loads of character, and he gives lots of pleasure, to me, the sad thing here is all those good black tip rabbit, what this ground was famous for has gone,SHOT, LONG NETTED, LAMPED, BUZZARDS, i DO NOT KNOW, but I can tell you you had to have a good dog, to do them single handed, these fellows up here were the best, and those words came from all the Greyhound trainers, and the boys who coursed them,it is sad, that after 100 years or more of that famous strain of blacktip rabbit, has dissapeared, and will never ever be again, the dog trainers from this area, won the Waterloo cup,, Hardie wright, was the trainer,COTTON king
was the dog, I had a dog Pup from him something like the Pup in the photo, and a fellow called Doggy SCOTT, won the waterloo, Purse, and numerous other top competitions, and this is were the last Pack of otter hounds come from OLD BILL SCOTT, HE OWNED THEM, IT IS SAD THAT countrymen cannot be left to do there own sports and let the city dwellers get on with there concrete jungle,

You're welcome BL....
thats a nice looking pup...teh 3/4 collie crosses certainly look the part and with the know how to back it up.....
Do you remember Eddie Barbers dog. That was a 3/4 hancock and what a cracker, a real powerhouse and first rate blacktip rabbit dog.
Would be nice to get together for a few runs when the pups are a bit older..
border lad
Hello FURDY, THANK YOU FOR the compliment, In my opinion, that x 3/4 bred greyhound 1/4 collie, for an allround dog are very hard to beat, the father of this pup is first x beardie he is supposed to be able to do it all,he is 6year old, the mother was a track bitch, distance,800 metres, or something of that distance, I like him there is a lot there that pleases me, and if this pup comes the way I think he will, it will be a pleasure for me to come down, for a couple of days, but he has a long way to go, If you had seen him run and jump that small wall, I felt so good about him, his bravery, he saw me looking into the rockery, and he decided of his on will he had to go there for me, at such a young age, I was delighted for him, his schooling, will come natural to him I have that good feeling about him, the sad thing is now at this moment the rabbits are very thin on the ground up here I hope in the summer TO AUGUST,time I can find him a place were some young rabbits out and about I like my pups to get a hold a one around 8 month old it brings them on a tonne, and I also love to go out just as the dawn is breaking the ground is alive with scent, for a pup there is nothing better, it is something good to look forward to, so there is saluki xs there is the collie x and the lad with his husky x and you have your grey/deerhound x it is going to be an interesting 12// 18 months, it is interesting, good luck to all who is rearing there pups, we all need it,

Try Powfoot theres a few rabbits round there. I agree with what you say about the blacktip rabbit numbers they are poor everywhere this year, but there are black tip rabbit around that castle in the pic, I have ran them pre-ban in the surrounding fields and up around the repention tower etc. The problem with your area is that the grass fields are very bare in winter, not much cover for them to sit out in, and there are lots of hedges and little strip woods where they infinately prefer to take cover, the coursing at annan always involved a great portion of black tip rabbit being beaten from these woods into the open parks. What I used to do pre-ban was walk all the stubbles and fields with a bit of rough or fluffy grass in them, places where the blacktip rabbit has more protection to entice him to lie out in it, but then what would I know I am just one of those "idiots" from the other forum who knows nothing about dogs lolol
Canis Vs Lepus
Whats with this "black tip rabbit" talk by the way? you have a guy in another topic talking openly about killing billies but your not allowed to say the word H A R E??? LOL
border lad
Yes I know Powfoot very well.what area are you from,(( and what breed of dog do you have?????
Canis Vs Lepus
Im from Lanarkshire but pre ban I used to course all over Scotland. I have saluki/grey whippet/grey bred lurchers.

The Pup nailed his first, rabbit this morning, in daylight, at 5.45am, he was hunting a field back and forth, the rabbit jumped, and he nailed it in about 20/ 30 yards, and I must tell you it is a relieve, and a burden taken of my shoulders, any person who has reared a pup, and he is only 7 1/2, months knows that feeling, (( as the old saying you can take the horse to the drinking trough but you can not make him drink,))) I dont know who is the
more happier me or the dog, yes he carried back to me, well within 10yards, but he would not bring it any closer, It was his rabbit, the first of many I hope and on to better stuff, when he is about 15 months, ((( It is a relieve, when they catch there first you know for certain, he can do it,
DROVER
: I know THAT feeling,....
With every new pup,..its always the same,...never changes.
Anyway,.he has popped his Cherry,...and now it will be,..onwards and upwards
All the best,...DROVER...
