Query just a thought

Now then this might sound slightly daft but new to cat shooting but have done a bit with centre fire rifle and reloading so i have a few 100grain soft point 243 calibre bullet heads
Now a rifle is called a rifle coz it has a rifled barrel which causes your projectile to spin and maintain accuracy over distance
please don,t think I,m being an arse this is just a thought if I was to use a bullet in the pouch of my cat and twist the bands on drawing to produce a rotation   , can you see where I,m coming from or am I being a total pratt

not a total prat  you might loose a finger or thumb. personally, i would'nt risk it ....mack

Being a wood machinist my hands are missing a few bits    but it was just a thought to encourage discussion and maybe invention

At the end of the day we are talking ballistics here ,Aren,t we ???

You can shoot bullet heads reasonabley accuratley. I wouldn't try to impart any spin on them though as you'd have trouble consistentley putting the same amount of rotation each time and the way a catty shoots it wouldn't work. Just make sure you hold them in the pouch by the base and keep the tip facing towards the target.

i guess they stabilise inflight?

Joerg said me once that you can shoot bullets with cattys...this video shows some shoots( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9lJ5FoXrek&hd=1 )...

Surely bullets have less precision than steel or lead  balls but YES you can shoot them...but I will not try the twisted bands mode...

gtavares is right, I really like my .44 lead wadcutters, weighing 16 gramms or 240 grains. They are every bit as precise as round balls. They do not stabilize and actually tumble, but that has no impact on the straightness of the flight.

I absolutely discourage you from twisting the bands. The effect can be that the bullet does not leave the pouch at the right time. Worst case, it comes back to the shooter! That has actually happened to people.

So by all means, don't experiment with this "technique", or wear a good steel suit of armor if you absolutely must try.

The police always seem to be active where you live or do you live near a hospital.

also do you have to recover much ammo from your lovely pool?

Of course I have to fish out bullets all the time. No problems with lead, but with steel I have to hurry as the rust leaves stain marks on the blue plastic foil.

And yes, there is a small park that begins just behind my patch of land, and on the other side of the park there is a big hospital. I have been lucky to find that house (bought it 12 years ago), it is in walking distance to the city center and still everything is very green. The noise of the city is omnipresent, though.

No such thing as a perfect house! But I am not complaining.

with a bird like yours jorg it wouldnt matter if you were in a cardboard box under the bridge!

my old man said that when he was a kid he used to shoot oblong fishing weights through his sling shot..he says they shot straight..i dont think the shape of your ammo matters in accuracy as long as its uniform.  but i think a good round ball is best for all around speed as well as accuracy.

it is true that spin does increase accuracy i have been toying with the idea of making lead ammo with indentations through the center ( like on a golf ball ,or something like that) to create topspin (much like the "hop up" effect in an air soft rifle.  but I have yet to come up with anything that substantially increases distance or accuracy  to justify the extra work.

but your thinking and thats whats important
