rowan treesjust wondered if any one uses rowan to carve stuff with??
ive been using green oak to make a few net needles lately but after having cut two bits of oak that were very dead in the heart and like iron to work with ive been looking at a few of the rowan trees here abouts and just wondering what its like to work with????

rowen is an ash and its ok but for net needles i'de use sycamore....mack

ill be doing needles and a few carvings of dogs ect as well if its any good!
just didnt want to go taking out a good tree if its no use for what i want is all!

another name for rowen is mountain ash [sorbus aucuparia ]......for carvng animals you want lime its brilliant ....mack

its not related though! its closer to apples than ash!
no lime around here only oak ash sweet chesnut or rowan!

non taken mate, i just assumed it was an ash being called mountain ash, when i looked it up it said why it was called that, because of the similatity of the leaves. its good to learn something new....mack

been up in the woods today and had a play with a bit of rowan and it all looks good, so tomorrow ill be picking a tree to cut!
