Smoking RatsAs I don't know anyone with a terrier I poured half a gallon of petrol down the rat holes in the field this afternoon. I poured it down all of the holes then lit one and the others exploded with a large woof then we heard squeals from the smoking vermin. I have now filled in all the holes and as soon as another one appears it will get the same treatment.
We have digs under the four chicken houses and rats nesting under there too so I think the only way to get them is to put garden netting around the houses and lift the houses to chase the rats out. Hopefully they will get caught in the netting where they will be introduced to Mr Shovel.
If anyone has any better ideas please let me know.

if you can get a couple of dogs or a few friends with some trusty shovels ? get an old two stroke engine an old chien saw is best mix 200ml of two stroke oil with three litres of petrol and the will make the saw smoke like hell !! place the exuast in the rat hole and wait for them to run out and by using this method you wont get un wanted duck ponds hahaha

Good idea-would it work for moles I wonder ?

Good idea blacktip rabbit Basher, I have an old diesel space heater that smokes like a Chieftan Tank, I wonder if I could use that? We cleaned out the meat chicken shed today and the rats were running everywhere, I didn't even realise that we had a problem in there. Need to borrow a terrier.

that heater will work but petrol fumes seem to have a quicker effect , as for moles i dont no i have never hunted or trapped moles so my noledge on them isnt great ? but i thing moles have many breathing holes and there tunnels often collapse so i dont no if the fumes wood reach them but i do no a chap that used to gas them with these little purple pellets that you lite and place in a run and then you burry it ?

pmsl!!!! filling the holes with petrol and lighting it! god thats priceles! now i wold have plugged all te holes with spuds and watched them all launch! ha a ha ! wish could be there for the next one!

we done the same thing the other day its great bhrrrrrrrrr bang fire everywhere and dead rats i loved it prehaps i should see a docter

I have another one to do tomorrow as a new hole has appeared where the original ones were. I'll get my US Army uniform on and shout "Fire in the hole".

i was talking with my mates ealier and was talking about your problem ? and my mate had the perfect solution r possy come to your place and kill all your rats well most ovem lol and have a days hunting at the same time ? pm me if your intrested?

You are most welcome HB any time. Might be a problem if you have dogs as the rats are in a field with goats and chickens.

Isn't that how everyone does it? That's the way our family has dealt with rats for as long as I can remember.

brillent smoking rats to tez's me dog's love it when there having a break from foxing and rabbiting give them a pop on rats my smoker's is an old chainsaw thumps like mad you can feel the thumping when you put the tube in old rattys hole dont takes them long to budge and try and run to freedom
