A few people asked Me how I made my cable snares, I couldn't find a tutorial anywhere on the net so I decided to make a simple one.

You need some 2 mm steel cable,
4mm nuts,
washers (3cm across with a 1 cm hole in the middle and at least 2mm thick. the hole in the middle is not necessary but I can't find any without)
a vice,some pliers , a hammer ,a drill, and a 3.5 mm steel drill

Here's some cable, I've cooked it in baking soda(or vinegar) and then I let it hang outside for some days to get the shininess of of it.
(notice the other cable which hasn't been cooked yet)

Here's a washer with 2 3.5mm holes in it.

Now place it in a vice

and bend it like so (it doesn't have to be perfect)

Now take your cable, as you can see It has a natural curve in it. you need to enhance this to make your snare more springy and to stay round in stead of having a tear drop shaped loop.
You do this by taking a vice, and placing a smooth screwdriver in it.
Now carefully role you snare cable over it, FOLLOWING THE NATURAL CURVE, you need to be really exact on this or else you'll mess up your cable. You don't need to use much pressure at all, IF you do you'll end up with something that looks more like a coil spring.

You only have to load the first 20 cm of your cable.
In the beginning you'll probably mess some cable up in this process , but after a few tries you'll get it right.

This is what it should look like after it has been loaded.

Now loop the cable trough your washer like this , and place a small nut at the end

Hammer the nut down, and make a really sharp bend AGAINST the natural curve.

You can also make a so called wammie , just take some steel/copper wire , and wrap it around a nail to form a coil, You can stick your wire in here to form your snare support.

Now you can just make a loop at the end by hammering a nut down, Or you can attach a swivel to it. But you'll won't really need that for fox or raccoon, For beaver you do need to attach a swivel, Because they roll around like crazy and break the cable.
You can always attach a swivel later by using a s hook.
This is what the Finished snare should look like

Here's a dozen snares with swivels attached to them.
I didn't load these yet, But for beaver these work fine.

Here's a simple swivel that you can make yourself very easily,
It's just a piece of pipe with 2 holes drilled in, and 2 nails.

if your using this type of snare in the uk dont forget to put a stop on it just to cover your ass!

better safe than sorry!

where-abouts and why ?

if your using the above snares for foxes in the uk they are ilegal with out a stop!

its supposed to reduce any suffering i.e to stop the snare locking and strangling the animal!

the ones i have from trap works have the stop set so that the loop of the snare can not close beyond two and a half inches wide and three inches long!

the stop is a small brass nut hammered onto the wire nine inches from the snare runner (the end that is attatched to the washer that slides up the main wire of the snare)

you can be prosecuted just for owning snares with out a stop i.e self locking snares

this does not apply to rabbit snares though!
