squirrells

Just got back from a walk about. Managed to get two squirrels. Are they really that good to eat? Cut there back legs off and brought them home with me. Going to fry them i think! Tough little buggers. Was sat in a small wood trying to call up a fox. My atempts at fox calling must have sounded more like a mating call for squirrells because they seem to come out from every where. Would have had a third if the call of nature had not been answered. Time i picked my gun up he had disappeared. Any one else into hunting these. I know that they cause a lot of problems to most birds by eating there eggs and young so the more we can get the better.

Would assume only the back legs would have been left if you shot squigs with a gun you were expecting to be able to kill a fox with. Or at least we would hope you were suitably armed with a gun to kill a fox humanely and outright.

Re Squirrells

These little buggers make fantastic eating, I Head shoot them generally with my Air Arms S400 so as not to damage the flesh

Skin and clean them and just wrap in foil with some salt pepper and smear with a little butter, roast them in a moderate oven for about 40 mins   you wont believe how good they are, it was years of shooting them before I tried it god I was sorry I hadn't tried them before

Never tasted squirrel, does it taste like any other meat or does it have a taste of its own ?

Just had roast tree rat and RTA pheasant breast. They were both roasted in tin foil and a bit of salt, pepper and a knob of butter added. Squirrel tasted fantastic. Dont really know what it tastes like. Not as strong a taste as rabbit. Got to get some more. Got to buy some more paper clips and  a stronger lacky band.

I shall have to try some then, saying that it s whether I ll be able to eat it. Still trying to get used to rabbit. Haven t eaten it since I was about 5 or 6 and I know I ve eaten it before but now it s a different thing. It takes me ages to eat some, I tend to keep chewing it instead of just getting stuck in. I think it s just the thought of eating something I m not used to.

Hi again Sarge

Glad you enjoyed your tree posum     , also happy you tried my easy recipe I have tried other ways but always seems best roasted in foil with salt, pepper, and a little butter. You also taste the meat just for what it is rather than masked with all sorts of sauces. I also liken the taste to rabbit but not as strong or dry
