i think the small d i y shoots and family shoots are the best every one knows every one, the bag numbers arnt great but the people are real sportsman and country men, the big shoots are so diffrent someone pays£500 aday and wahts there moneys worth regardless of the work that goes on to give them big numbers of game one local shoot now puts down20000 partridges to give some 'yuppy' adays 'sport'.

Know what you mean steve one of our local shoots put down 52000 red legs this year (sneeze and the sky goes black on the first days). Because they are on the edge of an SSI english nature are now onto them as the red legs are taking rye grass seed onto this site and killing off the old moorland fauna. Beat there for a few seasons but have to admit I much prefer beating on our current shoot where lurchers are not frowned on and guns and beaters sit down to 3 course lunch together.

I had the misfortune to pick up on a commercial shoot last season 20000 partridge 15000 phesant are put down,it was akin to slaughter no finesse in the way the birds were presented and the guns had no real interest in picking there birds or taking a brace or thanking the beaters or the pickers up.The grand total on this wet Wednesday was 580.I have heard of bags of this before but had never witnessed it.
As for lurchers one of the guys runs a lurcher on the shoot and a whippet, very well behaved and trained and none dares frown as Wills whippet has had many a long runner to be added to the bag.
