good evening all, I was browsing through the posts on the other forum,Top blood lines, it starts of well, and then it goes into a slanging match, and really it makes me sick to, read the rubbish, that some members post,(( to me a Lurcher was a poor mans hunting dog,TO FILL THE POT, up were i come from the local breed of Lurcher was collie x ((( bred from a good hill collie bitch to a top coursing greyhound, these hill collies are bred for stamina, hardiness, and brain, then you injected the speed the greyhound, out of normal litter of pups, you may only get two or three, blacktip dogs the other four would be rabbit dogs or pets, and then you can go on to your, 2nd x a good dog from the first litter on to a coursing greyhound bitch, and then I wanted a bitch out of that breeding, then you were on the money, and all of those pups were given to good working homes or a few would be sold from a £5. to maximum, £20. and if you bred again it was best worker, to another top worker,(( and at all times you were breeding, to improve the performance, of your dog, money did not come into the equation, It was the love of the dog and the sport, and to provide my children with the best ORGANIC food, that nature could provide, not trying to make a few quid of breeding pups,

Here here...
Its becoming a joke. I can see the sense and logic in some of the lines being bred, especially specific match coursing dogs. But really, some of the weird and wonderful creations. Did you see the recent litter being advertised as wonder dogs. Rottweiler x lurcher pups. Makes you wonder doesn't it.

Hello Furdy, yes those guys will be stating BEST CHARLIE DOGS EVER, the Fen dogs all seem to have a good Saluki blood in them, ((( I have never had saluki blood there is another Lad he goes by the name of WHIN, I have visited him on a couple of occasions, He lives on the east scottish borders, he owns some very nice dogs a couple of saluki x and his star is a 9 year old collie x bitch, bred out of an open racing greyhound, basicaly running on three legs, due to a bad injury, he swears by his saluki xs but I saw this bitch lift two bolted rabbits, in front of them,
if I had not seen this for myself I would never have believed this possible, she is now due to give birth to her 2nd litter of Pups, I hope all goes well for her, and he keeps her bloodline going,

i have changed my origanal post as you can see ,what i would like to find out is what do you think will be good or bad points of a malamute husky x grey hound ,,some thing that a friend of mine is trying out .

I have No Idea, of this breeding, or are you taking the PSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
to me a Husky belongs in the artic circle and north, thing about there very heavy coat, they would blow up with overheating, but I think you are taking the PSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS,
furdy
I thought huskies were bred to withstand freezing temeratures, being too warm can harm them.
I can accept that someone would want to breed to IMPROVE what we already have but I cant see what a husky would bring to a running dog that we havn't already got in the breeds we use now.
I know they are packed with stamina but they are built to run all day, not short fast burts of speed.
There are two types of muscle, fast and slow muscles. This is true in humans too so I'll use a human analogy to illustrate the point.
Take a long distance runner and a shotputter. Two very different athelets at opposite ends of the muscle spectrum. The runner with slow stamina packed muscle and the shotputter with well developed explosive muscles.
In our runner we want both of these attributes but the two muscle types dont excist side by side so we make a compromise and try to breed for an intermadiate type.
We aim for a dog something like the decathelete. Wont beat either the runner nor the shotputter in their own events but overall will hammer them both across multi disciplines.
I dont think a husky will add what you want.

ive seen husky x run was only 1/4 husky wasnt the ultimate dog but could run not my cup of tea i was thinking about breeding some last year but changed my mind wen i saw one run but i spose theres good and bad in all breeds i own a colliexgrey amazing dog can handle the odd day blacktip rabbit but is a master in the lamp i also own a suluki x dog hes a cracker also loves the daylight but can hold his own in the lamp as i won a bet with him last night took a £100 off of some blokes that thought my only lamper was busted up and i couldnt exept there offer of a match they were shocked wen i did and beat there prize bitch wiv my dopey day time dog lol i have another suluki x 11 months old hes day and night and i have a sulukix 3 month old pup that will proberbly be day and night and ive witnessed all maner of dogs run and be toppers such as a labradour x grey thats runs the fen and wins matches and its brother that can destroy a dozen winter black tip rabbit on the lamp so i think it poeples prefrence to a dog that makes them love there breeding and also wat ever has worked in the past poeple get used to one breed it works and there you happy dog men but then you get happy noit all dog men that try and change everyones views and convince them there dogs are crap and buy one the same as theres lol tc hb

its no joke ,the mother ,does most things on the lamp and in the day ,,we have had the alsation x and exceptional dogs they have been for us ,but over the years the alsations has developed hip problems ,so to me this is the next best thing ,the malamute is totaly different to the smaller huskys ,it is more wolf like ,and we have x it with a grey hound and just started to get the pups going ,they are 3 months old ,only time will tell what they turn out like ,

the plan with this breed is to x a bitch pup out of the first x ,BUT ,it is going to a son of the ultimate coursing dog that ever ran in this country .so it all takes time and patience ,the main out look is to see if the stamina and strenth can be improved on .mind you the dogs we use and have used have never been wanting in the stamina department ,just like to say we dont go out for black tip rabbit ,or any thing that bites back ,but if we do come across them then we dont refuse a run.ATB.

verry good explanation ,it almost explains what we are trying to achieve ,the pulling power ,,if it does then hopfuly it will add what we want .ATB

bdooly hell you cant even get abuse on this site ok we came across a big field down in newbury in berks .it was crawling with them must have been more than 70 in it ,now comes the unsporting bit it had a rabbit proof fence around it about 4or5 foot high ,so we let 2 dogs go and they chased different ones ,with in minuits every one wanted to run their dog and all hell broke loose ,3 vans full of dogs and owners running here there and every where after about 20 minuits we decided enough was enough and caught the dogs ,11 dogs had killed 21 black tip rabbits .i could only think it must have been a holding place for them after some one had netted them to sell [probibly for a coursing comp or some thing] ,just like to add im not proud of what happend it was so unsporting ,but at the time it was exiting .

it will be the first time in 35 years that i will have saluki blood in one of my dogs because i will be geting one of the pups ,i have mostly been a collie x fan but have had alsationx as well ,but at the moment im running a coursing whip x beddy the person that owend foxy got us a couple of pups to bring on and try on the big stuff ,just as the ban came in so if we ever got stoped these small 19 and 20 inch dogs only look like they are rabbit dogs ,but they turned out to be extremily good at their job ,i dont like to keep more than one dog at a time but i am looking forward to geting the pup .
