Where to buy small mesh gill nets and floatlineDoes anyone know where you can buy gill nets of about 2" or even a bit smaller? Just asking as all the commercial places I usually visit only stock about 4" or larger. Preferably online places or those at least with email. Also, does anyone know where you can buy floatline cheaply? The only stuff I could find was 15mm and was £120 for a 220m coil.

Fishy,I saw 3/4 inch mesh nets, fully rigged,a few days ago in a store down on the coast, they are roughly seven quid for a 30 yarder.Floatline is expensive for what it is,I saw guys fishing with a net off the beach using floats made from old flip-flops,waste not want not I guess, but in the UK its a heck of a lot cheaper to buy a coil of 6mm polypropylene and a handful of floats than commercial floatline and it catches just the same, whats your target species?

Sorry Fishy,a member of the landed gentry now,one step twice removed from the hoi polloi,VISITATIONS BY INVITE ONLY :smt067 ,nets are in S.E.Asia mate, cheap as chips because of lower labour costs and they are only made up the road in ROC.

What are the rings for on the bottom of the net?
|
Tidal_wear
|
Its just the way it comes off the spool mate, its 300 lbs BS mono, thats the bottom line with lead crimped on as weight rather than a lead core bottom line that we use in the UK

Ah OK. I did once try crimping on lead flashing once instead of leadline. It was OK, but the slightest rough edge and it tangled.

I just brought a few of those nets back mate, its not flashing thats crimped on,these dont tangle,I used them on some of the snaggiest bottoms going, coral, and they worked fine,if anythings prone to tangle its the meshes and thats unavoidable to be honest.

Here you are Fishy, small mesh(trout sized)gill-net,you can actually see the treads on some of the FFF's(flip-flop floats)and the way the lead weights attach to the bottom line, doesnt tangle mate, one of these is perfect if your wanting a brownie fry-up
