Hi ,i reckon that if you give a dog a good chance most of them will do a turn, loads of punters seem to think that a dog is like a gun ,you take it out ,use it and put it away when your finished, i've found that if they are with you all the time they are learning, watching your every move, even when you dont try to teach them they are aware of your moves, your moods, they soon learn to read your next move, i've had mostly wee dogs, whippetx beddy , 3/4 whippet x beddy, and the like ,they all done a job for me  but i was never a 30/40 a night man, i just hunt to eat, so i was just looking for a "handy" dog, i think the collie x is a bit easier to train, the beddy is a wee bit strong willed and would love to hunt on if given the chance, but i still loved the bit grit they have, the big plus for me is the size ,i kept my last 2 dogs in the house, and i wanted to get my share of the fire  , if you want to read a bit more about them ,i've loads of articles from the shooting news, P.M. me your address and i'll post you some copy of good reading material.

This was the article i was on about

i'm sure that a bit collie in the mix makes them a bit more responsive , but i've had some strange x breeds and i think that 99% of the time training is down to the owner,  like most things in life you get back what you put in, the more time you spend with your dog the better the understanding between you both, i've heard loads of folk say "great dog hardly had to train him/her, just seemed to know what i wanted " little do they realise that dogs are like us ,learning all the time just by being there watching/listening, every time i ever talk to my dogs WE are learning something, get the basic obedience right and your more than half way towards a long and happy partnership, remember that your dog is your mate dont let it down and it wont let you down, you'l see loads of dogs advertised as being super dogs ,perfect in every way, catching every thing they chase,  think about it ,why would you want to sell it ? and start again with an unknown quality ? would you sell your best mate ? i would'nt,  but then again i've never had a world champion who could do everything perfect, mind you my dogs have never had a perfect trainer, i'm sure loads of people will give you their opinion some good /some bad, just listen and make your own mind up, i've just given you mine  and remember i'm no expert but i've been round the block a couple of times, all the best.

Thats good advise from confused imo,and adding collie to beddy types can produce very good dogs, they were popular in my area 30 yrs ago,the best allrouder ive ever seen [a mates bitch] was roughly 3/4 grey/beddy x 3/4 grey/collie,and very steady until she had to turn it on.

Without going into the faults of the first x beddy/whippet [its been done to death] the beddy x grey or beddy x whippet grey tends to be a more easily trained and more versatile dog as a rule, both my lads have this type and no complaints as yet.

Basically do yourself a favour and get one with an element of greyhound in the mix.

i had a beedie x grey was a brillient dog, could tackle anything .i was out last night with a few chaps with a mixture of dogs ,even a 7 year old suluki x lurcher taking black tip rabbit for fun, and one of my mates who was a member of this forum has a collie x that amazed me last night by taking the biggest horny that iv ever seen. so i think if you put hard work into a dog you will get it all back over and over again
