I have an idea of something similar, except fill the inside with snares instead of relying on a springy stick. This way, there is no way the deer would pull it's leg out. Plus, the way I understand your trap, if the deer steps on the wrong side of the stick, it will not be trapped.
Oh, do you set the trap parallel or perpendicular to the game trail?
Thanks for seeing what it's like dugaboy. Just let me know if you think it's worth getting.
mate if you want I can copy some pages and mail email or fax to you only for teaching purposes of course if you can get a copy it wont be wasted money cheers
i would aggree ridgebacks would work or american dogs.I have a few RR and a 1/2 cross grey.Point and fire stuff.Snares would work in the old days, but i dont think for red cause the hinds and the stags snare size antlers vs no antlers it would be knocked out of its set site. All depends on the time off year.I read some where in an old book peps caught roe deer by feeding them with apples in a ride in a forest.
Turns out they feed the ride for a few days and then in the place where they done this ,the deer started feeding , then they put a big stake in the ground and added a steel trace like you use for fishing big game fish and then added a no1 sea trebble through a small apple.Turns out in the book deer eat small apples very quick and sometimes tug at them as if they were on a tree.Well you can guess how they caught them.
That book was printed in /Roman times i think no sure

Just as a bit of info. Go to some of the sites in the U.S. for snares and sets. Although it is illegal in the U.S. to snare a deer (many snares have "deer stoppers" on them) in a survival situation, I wouldn't hesitate to do so. You have to find a well used deer trail (look for droppings and tracks) and set the snare on the trail. Same is true for smaller game as well. There are also a number of survival sites where you can see the techniques. Go to:
www.therangerdigest.com and rick tscherne has it down pat.
Good Luck
