i am looking for a gill net to practice my bush craft skill s ,what i wont is may be a dual purpose net to use in the sea &fresh water if that is pos. i cant find much info on it as i have never used or seen one being used i could do with some advice. Could any one point me in the right direction for a supplier and what mesh sizes , i would make it my self but i just finished replacing all my purse nets for this season and i don't have the time to bang out a 50yard gill net.

I never laid claim to being wise,that was just to show you that maybe you should use a rod?As you said,you know nothing about gills,using a gill in freshwater in the UK is illegal,and the odds of anyone on this sceptered isle having to use a gill in a survival situation is nil.

What fish you after and what type of waters will you fish?Freshwater and sea nets dont really cross-over too well,sure you can catch freshwater in sea nets and vice-versa but your better off getting different nets.

where would you place the net in the water column
what mesh size / width

me and my mate have longlined before of the beach with some success
