Picture the scene...Court 1 Old bailey....

Prosecutor: "Now Mr Al Qaeda, please tell the court why you needed to purchase 30 gallons of hydrogen peroxide"?

Al Qaeda: " I have 3000 lurchers down the garden"

we were out for an early, morning mooch, on sunday, just as the dawn was breaking, we were on Hot, land, Shep, 10 month old now, and my mate
with his bitch, grey/whippetx saluki, 2 year old, I wanted my pup to be on something stronger, blacktip, or a hornie, in the first field my pup is hunting away very nicely, working very well, the next, a black tip jumps, a good run for both dogs my pup is still very unbalanced, being thrown wide on almost every bend, the bitch does her job, and the pup is there to, we have to take cover the farmer is taken his dairy, herd in, we wait for a good 15 minutes, and then we proceed, SHEP is hunting in a small round wood, the next a hornie comes flying out of the wood but hits the top wire as it is in a panic, with shep behind it, a couple of sharp turns, with the bitch, shep is being thrown wide on the turns, (( but it is all part of his learning curve, the next, hornie hits the wire again, and this time it is all over, it is time for us to get out and go home, my pup was showing the bitch how to hunt , but the bitch, showed the pup how to finish the job,

the Pup caught his first rabbit on the lamp, a good run, a turn, and then he had him and retrieved, back to hand, on his first run of the night, he hit the rabbit and over run him, the fellow who I was out with, has a very handy dog 3 year old collie x with a smidgen of saluki, in him, 12 runs 12 rabbits, a very handy dog, all retrieved back to hand alive, now people will say, of the pup a couple of rabbits is nothing, but believe you me, this pup has been encouraged, to hunt, away from me, in the early dawn, of the morning, and hunts very well considering his age, and now he is being held up to walk to heel again in the hunting field, and to return to hand as quickly as possible, and to be put back on the lead, again, and have him under control, it feels as if his FREEDOM, has been taken away from him, but when he was watching the other dog, how he came back so quickly with rabbit an all, to heel, it was a great learning curve for him
to watch this very good work, and I hope when he has a bit of experience, about him, he will be able to do the same and more, ((( and I was able to stop him from Hunting on, but we have a long way to go be fore he reaches that grand status, but he has come along way in a short time, from the jump in the pond, to his first daylight rabbit and now his first one on the lamp, (( it was a grand night as they say up here, I dont know who is the most happiest me or the dog??

SUPERB !! Well done Shep , in answer to the question who was the happiest = you   , it's great when it comes together for a young dog, you are filled with expectation for the future , as you say it's long road until he becomes a grand dog ? what is a grand dog ?? i reckon that your a bit like me ,as long as he suits you thats what matters, i've said before i never owned a super dog who could do everything, but then again the dogs never had a super owner   but we have had some fun on this journey
Keep up the good work and keep the posts coming.

I was out first light this morning, SHEP and I making our way down to the usual field a nice field running along side a wee river called the Mien, that runs into the river ANNAN, with all the rain we had over the weekend, the wee river was in full SPATE,
good for the river bed, keeps it nice, clean and healthy, I am paying more attention to the river, and I see the pup hunting around some small Whin bushes, this is about 100yards or more from me the next thing I see him racing, towards the far fence, but sadly the field has a dip in it and I can not see fully was it going on, the next thing I hear the familiar, squealing, oh he has something, I don't want to walk to him, I wait for maybe a minute, although it seemed to be a lot longer,  he comes to the top of the dip nothing in his mouth, I give him the command, to go out from me, he does go back
and I am slowly walking towards him, and calling him to fetch it, slowly he is coming towards me with the rabbit, I stop and encourage him to come to me, but he is wheeling around with it so I start to walk away from him, I am looking out the corner of my eye, he is coming with it slowly, then I come to old gate lying, about 45deg, angle I clamber over the pup is with me rabbit an all, he slides through the bars of the old galvanised, gate, then we have about, 40yards to walk, to the next gate and the road, at that gate I took the rabbit from him, the gaps between the bars of the gate were smaller, and I thought he will try to slide through or he will jump, he slid through, he was looking for the rabbit again but this time I put into my inside poachers pocket, A happy man, and one happy dog, just out for his mornings exercise,
