We had a Russell terrier, the most stubborn, ignorant dog ive ever seen,
when we let him off the lead you would only get him back when he was ready or you could corner him,i felt like shooting him at times to be honest.
My eldest decided he was going to re train him[we didnt get him until he was 6 months old and the first owner didnt have a clue]

My lad kept him on a lead instead of letting him off on his walks, the dog wasnt happy at all, then he let him off but never let him get to far away, when the dog wouldnt come and we eventually caught him he was put on the lead and taken straight home and my lad just stuck to his guns and kept it up,never giving in to the dog, when he eventually did come back when called my lad just gave him some praise and then let him work the cover again without putting him on the lead.

It probably took a couple of months but eventually the dog realised that if he didnt come back when called he would be put on the lead and taken home,if he did come when called he would be back in the cover hunting again pretty quickly.
I know its a pain having to take the dog home if he misbehaves but i rekon he would soon learn so long as you stick to the rules, nothing will make him realise the error of his ways more quickly than stopping him hunting, its obviously his goal in life to hunt anything that moves and he will soon realise he wont be doing much hunting if he disobeys you.
If you follow this properly you will see a change in the dog within a week 2 at the most.
Atb tyke.

My last post deals with that very problem,if you do what ive said and dont give in to him he will come back.

The Russell my lad cured was an absolute nightmare,he may as well have been deaf, wouldnt come back if he was on a scent but eventually he learnt that if he didnt come out when called he would be going on the lead and home.It works if you do it right.

Give it a go youve got nothing to lose.

That's good advice, Tyke.
