Well here it is finished with African tulipwood scales salvaged from a dodgy looking statue, brass pins and copper liners from an old teapot.

Everything on this little knife is salvaged exept the epoxy, oil and wax.

Got quite a good hamon on it as fish advised and I am very pleased with it so now on to the next one.

The hamon is the transition between the region of harder martensitic steel of the blade edge and the softer pearlitic steel of the back of the blade. IE different tempratures being applied to the back of the blade and the edge.

so basically the back is softer than the edge making it more flexible it doesn't really matter on a blade this size but it looks nice.

I love google as that is how I found out what fish was on about so I gave it a try.

HTH

And thanks for the encouraging comments.

In the dark of winter I am going to have a go at making my own, being a bit of a pyromaniac it will be fun trying. If succesful I will give you a shout then for a decent opinion.

My poor wife has visions of me moving into the front room with my kit as we have a good fire in there, but setting fire to buckets of oil may be going a bit too far
