i tried one raw it wasnt too dissimilar to a cockle! _________________

Awww blimey! I wanted to try and eat these critters as well! (OH sorta looked on in disgust lol!)
We found some all washed up as well Fish back in March I think it was, on Rhossili Beach after a big storm.
If I find anymore I will certainly try a few next time
