Can anyone recommend a river (im not after your exact spot) or canal in chester/whitchurch A41/A55/A483 kinda zones that they have seen/caught.

Im just about to start trying my luck!

ok, off site ive been given a few pointers. Just back from Rossett walking along the Alyn. spotted a few grays jumping, not taking worm from a handline but finished by a weir and left a cray trap, back tomorrow to see.....

If nothing else the setting sun, the kingfishers (5 in all), the odd juming fish and a nice pint before i left made it a nice afternoon anyway.oh yeah and and a big bird of prey took a swift on the wing while i was sitting watching them feed-dont know what it was but buzzard size?

so any luck yet on the crays?? i think the enviroment agency publish a list of rivers containing signal crayfish,ille see if i canfind it for you!

i had a couple of those shop bought mesh-net cray-traps, and used to use cheap spam as bait, all though im told green tripe from the slaughter house is best aka parnch

back this morning and drew a blank, oh well early days. Tonight im going for a walk with the misses so either the river gowwy or the shropshire union canal, i didnt think that would be a poss but i saw another poster say he had a few from a canal in macclesfield......

I've had a good hunt through the EA site but cant find a map of signal rivers outside the thames region( i htink that was a license map). i dont have a license for crays yet. how do they know its cray and not eel, which my still water license would cover me for. Also is it poss to upgrade a still license to river or do i have to pay for a new one?

your rod licence wont cover you for setting traps for eels, any type of trap is considered a fixed engine under the salmon and freshwater fisheries act (saffa) you shouldnt have a problem getting a licence for signal crayfish the ea are all to happy to help the reason why the ea licence is as a rough survey of the crayfish populations. for instance you have to record what species of crayfish and there number and the native white claw crayfish must be returned, the only reason i can see your application being rejected is if you dont have permission from the land owner or there are large colonies of the native white claw

thanks 4 that, i'll get my appliaction in.

In the meantime the SU canal had BETTER have some bdooly crays, cause i got bitten to bits putting them in.

I'm gonna start dreaming of these things!

For those who wish to know, to spare you the time of trying....
The SU canal does have perch,rudd roach all keen on sweetcorn or bread, it did not give up a pike despite spinning for 1/4 of a mile, but it DOES fill you traps...

ok new traps from ebay, still sticking with vcat food and nopw into the gowwy. Handy place to get back to as its close to a fishery and a really good pub.

no burrows in banks other than vole/rat holes. lots of minnows and dragonflies and a pair of buzzards.
fantastic views.
