As all of us are aware 'the last Tommy' Harry Patch passed away at Fletcher house nursing home in Wells somerset at the age of 111years old.
The last man alive to have seen combat in the trenches of WW1 today mad his final appearance in public at Wells cathedral.
Having paid tribute last week in wells cathedral we today also attended his funeral, literally thousands of people attended the service, which was relayed to the throng outside on a huge screen. Amongst the attendees were royalty by way of the Duchess of Cornwall HRH Camilla ,the services were all represented as were service charities and the Royal British legion.I lost count of the number of veterans i saw ,from all conflicts, sadly the veterans of the second world war are now fewer and fewer.

here's some pictures of the day.

The duchess of Cornwall arriving:

Harry arrives and is greeted by high clergy outside the cathedral:

the service was relayed to the thousands outside :

present to pay homage to Harry were the First world war re-enactment group in 1914 battle dress:

mounted escort waited out side along side veterans of the British legion:

a single rose and a bobby outside the main door:

Harry is here in the hearse and set on his way amidst rapturous applause and salute held:

a high ranking french officer attended on behalf of the french armed forces:

veterans of many classes united in their thanks to Harry Patch and the forgotten dead:

             WE SHALL REMEMBER THEM.

Really nice to see them photos, brings it home to you just how fortunate we are because of what they did for our country.

Tara.
