hi all i was just wondering what you lot thought was the best wood type for making catties i have one that i made years ago from holly and it is still strong and never rotted,and today just found a cracking set from a yew tree so gona dry them and make a new one,so whats your favourite?

if yer talking natural forks i recon hornbeam is the tops! ide love to see some pics of the natural yew one! i cut a set a few weeks back amd theyre seasonng at the moment.

i will try and get a pic of the yew forks on here,ive never heard of hornbeam is that the name of the tree or is it a nickname ive never heard of one before.also how long would you let the forks season for before fitting them out with elastic i have only ever made one natural set of forks and that was using holly.

just been trying it out and my accuracys improved alot im not sure if its because the bands are tied over the top its the first time i have shot a cattie with over the top bands but the improvement in my shooting is really noticable.cnt wait to get hunting.

I made quite a few natural forks from Spindlewood,not much to look at,but strong and hard.

Been a while since I've posted anything......I really like red or white oak over here in The States.  We had a terrible ice storm about a year ago and a resourceful fellow can wander the woods with a folding saw and collect about as many decent forks as you would want to carry.  I think the oak is very strong though I have just finished a set made from a mulberry limb that came down in the aforementioned storm that just "has magic in it".
