the only place to dig lug near me is brancaster on the north norffolk coast a round trip of 108 miles so its just not worth the hassle, i used to dig them many years ago when i was on the dole as 6 of us used to go and we made good money, never tried a lug-pump are they any good on blow lug as we dont get black lug locally.

Spratts? Spratts?

Mate, the fishing in the UK has come to a sorry state if you go fishing for spratts, here in NZ we go fishing WITH spratts (aka Pilchards, pillies) as bait! - I can get a 20Kg box for less than 9 quid from my local fishing shop, over here they are regarded as either bait or cat food!

Regards

Barapoi

Fish'
I guess we are spoiled for choice here in NZ because the only place in a NZ fish shop where you will find spratts/pilchards  is in the fish bait freezer, you cannot buy them fresh! However, depending on where I am fishing, if I caught one, it woud back over the side of the boat smartly with an 8/0 hook thru it's nose hoping a nice John Dory would see it for a meal for him ( and for me! )

Regards
