I always think its a bit like playing darts, you cant really aim a catty like a gun, eventually you just "know" when youre going to hit something, some people might hit 90% of what they fire at but its a gift imo, along with practice and keeping at it over years.

You wont kill everything you fire at not even close but the satisfaction of getting a kill with a peice of wood/ally and elastic is way better than looking through a scope and killing something with a precision peice of engineering, nearly anyone can do that.

try threading potatoes on string about the size of a rabbits head and hang them in front of you backstop its good fun and you can see the damage a cattie can do.

I'd say you need to be able to hit something the size of a baseball at least 50% of the time, but anything better than that is hopeful. Remember, you won't know the exact distance to your target, so also find a place where you can shoot at stuff walking around. Another way is to toss the baseball away from you and see if you can hit it at different distances. Once you think you're bad... toss out a golf ball and see if you can smack that!

Inanimate targets are ok for getting your eye in but shooting at live game is a different ballgame,im not that good at tins, potatoes ect but come home with quite a bit of live[ex live] stuff, its just not the same imo.

in my opinion lead is the best ammo..as far as targets im like fish ..i like to dink around in the desert shooting whatever catches my eye ..it prepares you better for hunting than target shooting does...and as far as improving your accuracy. i have one tip that will help..consistency!  thats the one thing that will help more than anything else   make sure your anchor point is the same every time, you stretch the bands the same distance every time..release the same every time ..the more consistent your shooting is the less your brain has to adjust for your shooting .

read the books of G fred Asbell he is a traditional archer..but many of the concepts used in archery are just as viable for slingshotists
good luck

Fred Asbell's books are very good for the instinct shooter.Instinct shooting is the best for hunting.Practice at differant unknow distances.A fun game to hone your instinct shooting, take a walk in the woods and shoot at things that catch your eye ,stumps, leaves, knotholes,Ect.It is more fun with a couple of buddies.Don't shoot the street lights out when you go to town.It is tempting but makes for bad publicity for slingshots.Have fun.
